Le Chateau is seeking an enthusiastic and capable Houseman to manually set up, break down, and service all event spaces. The Houseman is responsible for ensuring that all banquet functions have the proper equipment and supplies. Inspects kitchen and back of the house areas at Le Chateau to ensure premises and equipment are clean and free form safety hazards. Manages inventory of all china, glassware, silver and other food and beverage equipment. Works closely with the Maitre D’ to ensure the timely setup/breakdown of all rooms and equipment in accordance with the weekly schedule of events.

Hours

This is an hourly position with the potential of up to 40 hours in the peak season (May - October).

Requirements

  • Minimum one year experience in food service operation. Prior banquet experience preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education training or experience that provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with associates, management, clients and vendors if necessary.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds by hand and more than 50 pounds with the assistance of other associates or through the use of a handcart, push cart or dolly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess basic handyman/maintenance skills – i.e., plumbing, electric, carpentry.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mostly weekends (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays), late nights, and holidays when necessary.
  • Reliable transportation.

Position Details

  • Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the below.
  • Set up all function spaces to the specifications of the event, as directed by the Maitre D’. This includes considerable physical activity in transporting awkward and heavy materials such as staging, tables, chairs, podium, etc., from storage area to function rooms.
  • Ensure that all banquet functions have the proper equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains all event spaces in excellent condition so the rooms stay presentable at all times.
  • Refreshes rooms as needed through a variety of tasks including some vacuuming/cleaning.
  • Reports all maintenance needs and damages to Manager for immediate repair.
  • Perform basic handyman/maintenance tasks as required.
  • Maintains storerooms, equipment, and work carts in excellent condition at all times.
  • Manage inventory of all china, glassware, silver and other food and beverage equipment.
  • Ensure all garbage and refuse disposal procedures are handled properly.
  • Ensure the proper cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas and back of the house.
  • Know and follow all Le Chateau emergency and safety procedures.

Le Chateau is looking for an energetic and experienced individual to join our Events Team.

As a Banquet Captain, you will act as a right hand to our Director of Banquets and help to supervise the setup, execution and tear down for our catered events. A key member of our FOH team, you will make sure that the tables are decorated correctly, the food is well presented, and service goes off without a hitch. You will help the Director of Banquets to supervise the waitstaff, making sure that they are in uniform and providing exceptional service to our guests. You will also be a liaison to the Chefs and culinary staff, keeping them informed of timelines and service needs.

This is a new venue opening – we are hiring now for work that will start in late September / early October.

Hours

This position will average 20 - 30 hours per week, and primarily requires availability on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Requirements

    • At least 2 years in a catering/banquet service position in a full-service banquet facility, resort or hotel.
    • High school diploma is required; college/culinary degree is helpful.
    • Knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds at a time.
    • Ability to perform various activities such as constant standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting.
    • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work well with people in a team environment.
    • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints and within established deadlines.
    • Certification in an Alcohol Awareness Program or willingness to be certified in an Alcohol Awareness Program.

      • Ability to learn and obtain new information in a fast-paced setting.
      • Reliable transportation.
